Teen Who Threatened Mass School Shooting
At High School Arrested

Arrested: 18-year Carlos Castanon of the 100 block of Sierra Vista, Sunland Park, NM

EL PASO, TEXAS – A teen who threatened to commit a mass shooting at a local high school is arrested. In the evening of Thursday, January 8, 2015 the El Paso Police Department received over twenty calls regarding social media posts made by 18-year old Carlos Castanon threatening to commit a mass shooting at El Dorado High School on Friday, January 09, 2015. Pebble Hills Officers immediately began an investigation and learned that on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 Castanon had been involved in a fight near El Dorado High School’s campus and the threat was possibly in retaliation for the fight. Officers secured a warrant for the arrest of Castanon and requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals’ Lonestar Fugitive Taskforce. Deputies with the U.S. Marshals were able to arrest Castanon at this residence in Sunland Park, NM without incident where he was turned over to the Sunland Park Police Department. Castanon is charged with one count of Terroristic Threat Cause Fear of Serious Bodily Injury with a $100,000.00 bond.
