The roar of Aztec game chants resounded through the Student Activities Complex Oct. 25 under the Friday night lights, as the football team took on the Eastlake Falcons. The loud chanting wasn’t coming from the student section, however. It was resonating from the soldiers of the 2nd Squadron, 13th Cavalry Regiment, and Task Force Guardian, who were guests of the Aztecs for the annual Military Night celebration.

Campus Military Liaison Angel Montelongo and the Student Ambassador Club led the campaign to collect two full care packages from every third period class and student organizations. Though the campus fell short of the 200 planned care packages, over 100 care packages were presented to the 2nd Squadron, 13th Cav., who are Partners in Education with El Dorado.

During the halftime presentation, Principal Venessa Betancourt presented a plaque to the soldiers of Task Force Guardian, which will deploy overseas soon. According to Betancourt, the plaque shared the school’s best wishes to the soldiers and recognized the sacrifices they have made for our freedom.

Student Council led the military section in game chants all night and the soldiers also presented a large flag at the beginning of the game on the football field.
