After months of practice, the varsity boys basketball team took on Cathedral High School for their first game of the 2019 season. The game was held at Cathedral High School on Friday, Nov. 15.

The varsity boys basketball team played the Cathedral High School boys basketball team before this year during their fall league season, where they took a win.

“Going into the first game of the official season my senior year, I was feeling pretty excited and ready to work to get that win,” senior Jarett Wells said.

The game was coming down to its final minutes and the scoreboard shined, displaying that the score was neck and neck.

“All that was going through my head was to not mess up, especially in that loud environment that only made me more nervous,” senior Yael Barrios said.

In the end, the Aztec boys reigned victorious in their first game of the season with a final score of 40-36, El Dorado.

“At the end of the game, I felt excited and pumped up for the rest of the season because after that win, I saw how good of a team we really are,” senior Jimmy Hernandez said.

The Aztecs still have many more games to come, including a few where they will travel to Texas towns and compete in Fredericksburg, Monahans, Levelland and Midland.

“I am excited for this season because we have a really talented group of players and have a really good chance of winning the district championship,” Wells said. “I can’t wait to show everyone what El Dorado is made of.”
