The football team practices everyday from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday mornings in preparation for season that is set to be unlike any other in recent history.

With masks and their own gallon water jugs, the Aztecs warm up in carefully spaced lines on the practice field as coaches with covered faces walk up and down the lines.

Coaches are known for their booming voices, but head coach David Telas’ voice is noticeably worn out as he shouts at the athletes through a black gaiter that muffles his voice.

In the first week of practice, the boys are identical in white T-shirts and black work out shorts as they break up into their respective squads and positions to do more targeted training.

The Aztecs will face the Montwood RamsĀ  at 5 p.m. for freshmen, 6 p.m. for JV and 7 p.m. for varsity on Thursday, Sept. 24 at Montwood High School.

Their first game of the season will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1 at the SAC against Pebble Hills High School.
