Lady Aztecs tame Mustangs on court
By Angel Pedroza, Sports Editor
The El Dorado Aztecs defended their court against the Burges Mustangs Tuesday night and were determined to come out on top. With the sets at 25-21, 25-18 and 25-19, El Dorado won all three match-ups.
The lady Aztecs had a slow start coming into the first set. They were trailing until the very end, when Head Coach Roel De Anda and the lady Aztecs turned the table at the very end for the first set comeback win 25-21.
“We had a couple of our girls nervous, so we had to call a timeout and kind of adjust and settle jitters,” De Anda said, when asked what was happening at the start of the set. “At the end we were able to make adjustments and take care of what we needed to.”
The team middle blocker, Ebonie Ballesteros had her fingerprints all over this game not only showcasing her blocking ability, but her offensive talent in the process.
“We usually play hard all the time and we learn from our mistakes, it’s just a matter of heart, which we do have,” Ballesteros said. “My setter always places it where I need it to be and I just have the sense to follow through and finish it.”
Next up, our lady Aztecs travel to Chapin High School today to keep their offensive and defensive roll on a winning stride.
“We have a couple of injuries and they’ve played a lot of volleyball in this two-weeks span,” De Anda said. “There’s days where we have to take it easy, but they know it’s fast the first few weeks, which is why we have to stay focused.”
