For the past three years, El Dorado has gone to the regionals meet competing against some of the best 1-6A schools. With a team of eight Aztec swimmers, El Dorado students are ready to compete in one of the most competitive swim meets in the 5A division in the state of Texas at Lubbock.

“Our team has gotten really close over the past semester,” junior Aixarret Hernandez said. “To just find out that our team qualified for regionals, it’s just one more connection to our similar passion of swimming.”

America’s High School coach, Raquel Aguilar and El Dorado coach, Michael  Douglas are glad to be taking their team onto regionals for the third year in a row.

“I am really excited to see them swim this meet,” Aguilar said. “I have seen many of our swimmers improve tremendously and they too are excited to race.  It is nice to see the swimmers that dedicate themselves, work out hard and show up to practice swim faster and faster.”

Practice makes perfect, and for that Aztecs focus on their training for the big meet. With early morning practices, Aguilar makes sure that her team is prepared to swim faster than any other school.

“Coach Aguilar has been pushing us by making practice extremely rigorous,” junior Ximena Varela said. “In the long run, I know this going to cut our times and make us the fastest.”

Pressured by the stakes of the Regionals meet, swimmers know that speed is everything and that every fragment of a second counts. With fellow friends who are also swimmers, the competition of the meet becomes even greater.

“I hope Regionals goes very well, our biggest competitor would have to be Eastwood High school because of how their speed is unbelievable,” Varela said.

Regionals take place Feb. 1 and qualifiers will be swimming on Feb. 2.
