EDHS vs Frenship

The El Dorado Aztecs traveled to Wolfforth, Texas to take on the Frenship Tigers at home on Friday, looking to bounce back from last week’s loss against the Eastlake Falcons. The Aztecs accomplished that with a non-conference win 55-48, setting their record at 1-1 (district 0-0).

The Aztecs took initiative at the start of the game keeping a tight lead of 14-10 to end the first quarter. It was a lead they kept and added on to, making it 34-24 to end the dominant first half.

“I think we got all the jitters out and knocked off a lot of rust,” head coach Ruben Torres said when asked what the difference was from last the last game against Eastlake. “Offensively we got rolling and as fast we go, that gave them a lot of problems.”

The third quarter was a back-to-back defensive battle as both teams recorded many three and outs, finishing the quarter with Aztecs still leading with a score of 34-27. Later, in the fourth quarter both teams racked up the scoreboard, but the Aztecs still outscored the Tigers 55-48, giving them the away-game victory.

Senior wide receiver Cory McCoy, had his share in touches and on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter to help the Aztecs get the win.

“We had to keep our head in the game,” McCoy said when asked how the Aztecs stayed ahead, knowing the Tigers were right behind them. “They were putting up a good fight till the very end, but we had to come back two times stronger.”

The El Dorado varsity football team has another away, non-conference game Friday, Sept. 15 against Midland Lee in Midland, Texas.
