DIY Galaxy Mason Jar
Shared by Claudia Juarez
From galaxies and nebula to stars and planets, everyone is in love with the interstellar theme right now. It’s on backpacks, it’s a cellphone company, it’s even on shoes, but it can also be a decoration. Since Christmas is around the corner and candles are a hallmark this holiday season, spice up your Christmas spirit and make a galaxy mason jar that you can display year-round.
Supplies:
8 oz. quilted mason jar
Decoupage glue
Gel food coloring
Assorted glitter
Stirring sticks
Disposable plastic cup
Battery-operated tea lights or any decoration that can be added inside of the mason jar
Instructions:
In a small container, mix 2 tablespoons of decoupage and the food coloring until it reaches the desired shade. Use 2-3 cups of water and add the glitter as you are mixing. 4 to 3 different colors are preferred.
Carefully spot coat the inside of the mason jar with the decoupage and food coloring mixture. You can rotate the jar to make sure the interior is fully painted with the mixture.
Cross two stirring sticks over a plastic up and balance the jar upside down over the sticks to let the excess decoupage drip out. Let this sit for 5 minutes.
In a 170 degree Fahrenheit/ 340 degree Fahrenheit oven, bake the mason jar for 15 to 20 minutes until the decoupage is clear. Make sure the glass is cool before removing.
You can either use a battery-operated tea light to give the galaxy mason jar a glow or you can add other decorations inside. You can even plant your own plant inside of the mason jar if you want.
