Military families were presented with an Aztec pyramid of about 100 care packages that will be sent to troops deployed overseas with the 2nd Squadron, 13th U.S. Cavalry. A representative from the unit, Sgt. Michael Hill, came to pick up his own package filled with toiletries, food essentials and necessities.
Families of military from the unit were also present and expressed gratitude to Assistant Principal Valerie Hairston, marketing teacher Erika Lucero and military liaison Krista Moore, who all helped to organize the project.
Teachers and students gave so much supplies for care packages, that Moore actually ran out of black boxes to pack them in. According to Moore, in addition to supplies, over 1,000 thank-you cards from students were also collected and will be sent to the troops.
The packages are being mailed out today.
