The mantra to help leave a better Earth for those after is easy to remember – reduce, reuse and recycle. Now, student council is starting a campaign called “Ban the Bottle” to help minimize the amount of plastic water bottles used on campus.

“We met with the environmental teacher, Ms. White, and she explained to us how this was started in her class and how it would be great if we would be able to spread it around the school. We want El Dorado to be more eco-friendly,” said student council member Edgar Felix.

With the inspiration coming from One World, One Heart, student council plans to install new water bottle fountains throughout the campus that refill the bottles with clean and enjoyable water.

“It’s important to start this project because we’re helping the environment. It doesn’t contribute to pollution problems and it benefits our health also,” said vice president Areli Jacome.

The prices for the bottles are $5 and can be bought from student council members in room D105 during lunch or afterschool. Help reduce the amount of plastic water bottles on campus and choose to drink from reusable water bottles.

“I believe this project is going to continue to grow and be more successful because there’s always a need to decrease the amount of plastic water bottles and increase the awareness of the damages they do to the environment,” said member Madeline Sangerhausen.
